Warwick

A cursory glance at a map for Orange County towns closest to New York City may imply that Warwick, NY is very close by and thus the easiest commute into Manhattan and other parts of the city. This is deceptive however because Warwick is on the southwestern end of Orange County and makes a much better home for people who work in Sussex, Passaic and Bergen Counties in New Jersey since it lacks mass transit options to NYC like NJTransit train and Interstate access. A better location for shorter commutes to New York City would be Tuxedo/Tuxedo Park or the more diversely priced Monroe New York area as they both offer bus, train and highway access within minutes of many homes in the area.

The Warwick area is made up of two parts; the Town of Warwick and the Village of Warwick. The Town of Warwick was formed in 1788 but it wasn’t until 1867, nearly 80 years later, that the Village of Warwick incorporated. There are also two other villages that reside within the boundaries of the Town of Warwick: Florida and Greenwood Lake. The Town of Warwick is mostly residential, home to mini-estates, equestrian centers and medium sized communities of both single family and townhouse style homes.

Along Main Street in the Village of Warwick are the local boutiques and family-owned businesses that draw in thousands of visitors every year. Part of Warwick’s appeal is the New England nature of the village with many two and three story buildings lining Main Street as it descends down a gentlly sloping hill to the western end of the village. Along the western end are the gorgeous Victorian and Colonial mansions that reside across the street from the Warwick Valley Country Club. Delve into the tree-lined side streets of the village to find more vintage homes of a bygone era or venture into one of the many open space parks located throughout the community. Take a walk through Veterans Memorial Park and visit the beautiful master planned active adult community of Warwick Grove, with streetscapes that share a similar feel to the Village with sidewalks and well designed spaces amongst a scenic setting. No trip to Warwick would be complete without visiting the area’s highly acclaimed wineries which often offer wine tasting events, live music and homemade baked goods.
